Turkey and Pakistan have decided to send troops to Saudi Arabia in response to attacks by the pro-Iranian Houthi militia from Yemen. The announcement followed an emergency meeting of the so-called Mecca Defense Alliance in Riyadh.

The deployment will adhere to the national laws of each participating country. The meeting was prompted by an attack on a power distribution station in Medina.

The Saudi-led military coalition in Yemen stated on Thursday that the Houthis, allied with Iran, were responsible for the attack. The facility supplies power to the Prophet's Mosque, a significant Islamic holy site.

Joint Defense Agreement

Saudi Arabia's Defense Minister described the deployment as a demonstration of solidarity and unity in the face of attacks on the Kingdom and its sacred sites.

Pakistan, Saudi Arabia, and Turkey signed a mutual defense pact in August. This agreement stipulates that an armed attack on one member nation is considered an attack on all three. Specific military obligations stemming from this pact remain unclear.
